Approximately 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland woke up without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the region, generating powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Widespread Damage

Locals witnessed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams activated to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham - 179 emergency requests

At the height on yesterday, more than 28k power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

The following day was forecast to be the wettest day, with continued storm activity anticipated across different parts of both states.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
